honeysuckle tea house and other adventures in chapel hill.

IMG_9355Sometimes  you need a little nature and nurture…last Sunday I got a little of both when I took a drive over to Chapel Hill, NC to visit dear friends L + J.

On my way into town I stopped at the Looking Glass Cafe in Carrboro and dove into a book and a giant cup of coffee while waiting to meet up with L.  Good book ( Yukon Alone is the current read ) & a good coffee in a comfy cafe waiting for a dear friend…now that’s a good Sunday!

In need of a little nature L + J decided the Honeysuckle Tea House was the perfect place to go…. and they were SO right! As we pulled up I knew this was something special and J explained that they grow their own tea on the farm and there’s live music in the evenings…the peaceful vibe washes over you as you arrive.  The open air shipping container structure transports you to another world where the garden envelopes your senses & the super chill vibe and peaceful setting are intoxicating.   I ordered a lavender lemonade… yes, lavender lemonade & I’ve been thinking about it ever since I took the last sip wishing for another one in my near future. We sat outside at the picnic tables watching the dogs play in the pond, people wandering around and kids hula hooping with a yurt in the distance.  Yes, a yurt.

Afterwards, we took a ride down the road to the Pickards Mountain Eco Institute  where J volunteered harvesting elderberries last season and made his own elderberry syrup.  I know it all sounds a little hippie-ish for this Brooklyn girl and it was a bit utopian but just the nurturing and nature this girl needed.

We followed up the farmy afternoon with a spin by Carrburritos but note it’s closed on Sundays 🙁  We’ll keep that one on the list to do next time. Bonus: they have an art-O-mat machine! ( if you aren’t familiar with art-O-mat check out their site…kQ is a collector and has been accepted as an artist in their program… more on that later. )  adventure ON! xokQ.
